Land Management at La Copita
The goal of the La Copita Demonstration Ranch and Research Area is to provide insight into the ecologic and economic responses to management application at the ranch scale. Anticipated to begin in 2025, the ranch will be divided into two operating units — one unit will be managed using conventional grazing practices, while adaptive grazing management practices will be implemented on the second.
Additionally, faculty and staff worked closely with Texas A&M AgriLife Research to develop and finalize hunting and grazing lease agreements for the property. Property managers and researchers work closely with hunters to manage wildlife populations based on annual survey data.
Commonly used management tools utilized on the property include herbicide, fire, and mechanical vegetation and brush control.
