Professional Summary

John Walker, Ph.D., is a professor emeritus in the Texas A&M University Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management. His research interest are grazing management, foraging behavior and range livestock production. He conducts on targeted grazing, which is the use of grazing livestock to modify vegetation, and edited the first Targeted Grazing Handbook. His interest in foraging behavior has resulted in the development of the Aggie Cedar Eating (ACE) goat. This is a line of goats with a high propensity to consume encroaching juniper trees. Walker is a Co-PI on the Prairie Project, a $10M USDA-NIFA sustainable agricultural system research and education project to promote sustainable livestock production and manage woody plant encroachment through the application of pyric herbivory and multispecies grazing. Walker has published 78 peer-reviewed articles and 11 book chapters. He is past president of the Idaho and Texas Sections Society for Range Management and currently serves on the board of directors for the international Society for Range Management.
